Appomattox County defender Tavorian Copeland wins Watkins Award

BLACKSBURG – Incoming Virginia Tech line of defense signer Tavorian Copeland He was honored with the celebrated Watkins Award on Tuesday evening.

The nationwide award honors the very best African-American highschool soccer participant for his contribution on and off the soccer subject. The announcement was made at halftime of the Beneath Armor All-American Sport in Orlando, Florida.

Copeland has a 3.96 GPA at Appomattox County Excessive Faculty and hopes to main in neuroscience at Virginia Tech with plans to develop into a Rhodes Scholar and anesthesiologist. The 1.8-metre, 190-pound defender assisted Coach Doug Smith and the Raiders to 2 state championships with 4 10-win seasons and a 44-8 document over his profession.

The Franklin D. Watkins Memorial Trophy Award was launched in 1992 to advertise educational excellence amongst younger African-American males. Since 1992, highschool seniors have been honored with the title of “Premiere African-American Male Scholar-Athlete.”
